As part of the federal government and the federal states program to support early-career academic researchers (Tenure Track Program), the Faculty ofPhysics, Chair ofDidactics of Physics, invites applications for the
Junior Professorship (W1) in Physics Education (with tenure track to W2)
initially limited to a four-year contract, to be filled at the earliest possible date. If the interim evaluation, which usually takes place in the fourth year, is positive, the employment relationship will be extended to a total of six years. After five years at the latest, a tenure evaluation will be carried out by a TU Dresden evaluation commission. Following a positive tenure decision and if the appointment requirements are met, a permanent Chair (W2) of Physics Education will be granted without a new call for applications.
The evaluation procedures are based on evaluation criteria mutually agreed upon with acceptance of the position in the categories research, academic teaching, knowledge transfer and academic self-administration. Essential performance criteria are scientific success accounted for by establishing an independent research profile, its implementation in third-party funded projects, peer-reviewed publications, participation in collaborations within and beyond TU Dresden, the development of innovative teaching contents for physics education, and positively evaluated teaching performance.
The Chair of Didactics of Physics is responsible for the physics education parts of the education of secondary-school teachers and furthermore is involved in the continuing education of physics teachers and of those entering school service as career changers in close collaboration with the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB). The chair has a broad research spectrum, with emphasis on modern physics in teacher education and in physics education at secondary schools. In this environment, you (m/f/x) will independently represent the field of physics education in research and teaching and enhance the research portfolio with the development of your own compatible profile in a modern area of physics education research. We expect you to acquire third-party funding and to independently supervise PhD candidates as well as participation in the academic self-administration. Furthermore, we expect you to establish collaborations with partners within and beyond TU Dresden as well as to offer professional development activities for physics teachers. You will participate in physics-education teaching and its continuous development. Your teaching obligation initially comprises four academic hours per week.
This junior professorship with tenure track is aimed at scientists in a very early career phase with an extraordinary potential for a further career in science. You have a strong background in a topical field of physics education research, documented by an outstanding PhD and by your publications. You have practical experience in teaching at schools as well as pedagogical aptitude. Applicants must fulfill the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
