Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. We are seeking a Deputy Group Leader - R&D Manager to work with the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test Facility (DARHT) Engineering, Operations and Physics Group at LANL in Los Alamos, NM. You will provide vital leadership and ensure the team meets their goals and objectives though advanced research, development, engineering, experimental testing, next generation workforce development and technical project management.
Responsibilities:
Manage facilities and operations, as well as planning program development courses
Administer budgets and ensure all performance standards are met
Work with the EES-16 group to assist in developing and/or leading projects
Collaborate with interdepartmental staff to ensure mentoring, training, career development, strategic planning, sound management practices and operational excellence
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or a related field; Advanced degree in STEM field preferred
5+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position
Professional level background, education, and experience in one or more of the following: Accelerator engineering, plasma physics, electrical engineering and/or nuclear engineering, with demonstrated competence in these areas through project/program/capability success, technical publications, activity on technical societies and/or academic qualifications
Ability to manage and lead a team of 20+ personnel to accomplish program goals
Demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring and mentoring employees and providing technical direction, mentoring and coordinating projects
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience with electron accelerators
Experience in design, engineering and safe operation of accelerator and/or pulsed power systems
Working knowledge of nuclear weapon design principles
Experience in US Department of Energy regulations for accelerator operations
