FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Hunter College of the City University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on experience and qualifications. The Physics faculty at Hunter College have access to the CUNY-wide research resources, including the state of-art facilities at the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC). We seek candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service. The expected starting date is Aug 25th, 2025, with an earliest start date of Jan 25th, 2025. The duties include teaching physics courses at all levels and initiating externally funded vigorous research programs which involve graduate and undergraduate students in research. The candidate also shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor: The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent, and have shown ability to teach a variety of physics courses from introductory to graduate levels, demonstrated strong scholarship, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. The candidate will be expected to initiate an externally funded vigorous research program and involve graduate and undergraduate students in their research. The associate or full professor level should show a proven track record in securing grants and scholarships. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in experimental condensed matter physics, photonics, nanoscience, quantum sensing, and/or advanced characterization techniques applied to energy or quantum materials. COMPENSATION
The starting annual salary ranges from $52,267-99,532 for assistant professor, $67,784-117,805 for associate professor, and $83,878-141,858 for full professor. The annual salary is based on a nine-month work year that is paid over the 12-month calendar year.Salary will commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
