For our Undulator Systems group we are looking for a
Scientist for Superconducting Undulator Magnets (f/m/d)
The position
The development and integration of superconducting undulators (SCUs) in the EuXFEL is part of the facility development program. Of fundamental importance for the program is the development, commissioning and operation of the SUNDAE1 measurement system. SUNDAE1 is a vertical liquid helium bath used to train SCU coils and to measure their magnetic field. The main task for this position is to coordinate the commissioning and operation SUNDAE1 in collaboration with other colleagues from the UNSYS group and DESY technical groups. This includes:
organize and perform the commissioning of SUNDAE1 in collaboration with other colleagues from the UNSYS group and DESY technical groups
write and update risk assessments
measurements of different SCU coils to be characterized adapting the system if needed
operation of SUNDAE1 performing the measurements and analyzing the data
optimization and further development of the SUNDAE1
magnetic simulations
Requirements
PhD in Physics and or Electrical Engineering
background in commissioning and operation of measurement systems
proven knowledge and experience in data analysis using Python, MATLAB, Mathematica or similar tools
proven knowledge and experience in magnetic simulations is an asset
experience in one of the following fields would be beneficial: accelerator physics, cryogenics, superconducting magnets, undulators, magnetic field measurements and accelerator-based photon science
proactive work approach, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multilingual, multidisciplinary team with English as working language. Knowledge of German is an asset
