The Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics (JACMP), a fully open access journal of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), is seeking a new Editor-in-Chief with a three-year initial appointment starting January 1, 2026. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AAPM’s medical physics publications, ensuring the JACMP’s highest scientific integrity, quality, and global impact.
The Editor-in-Chief’s key roles are to provide strategic vision and leadership for the Journal and to oversee the editorial and peer-review process, maintaining the highest standards for scientific excellence and innovation. Responsibilities include leading the JACMP Editorial Board, representing the Journal on international platforms, collaborating with AAPM’s publisher and AAPM publishing staff for efficient journal production, and serving as a voting member of the AAPM’s Journal Oversight Committee. This appointment is fully remote with administrative support and publishing tools provided by the publisher and AAPM publishing staff. An honorarium will be provided by AAPM.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership: Manage the manuscript submission and review process, ensuring timely and rigorous peer review. Select and work closely with Editorial Staff and the Editorial Board to uphold the Journal’s policies and editorial direction.
Strategic Vision: Develop and execute a strategic plan to enhance the Journal’s reputation, increase its global impact, and adapt to the evolving landscape of clinical medical physics and the continuing digital transformation of scientific publishing.
Collaboration: Work in partnership with the AAPM Board of Directors via the Journal Oversight Committee and AAPM publishing Staff to align the Journal’s goals with strategic organizational objectives. Participate in the selection of Editorial Board and lead efforts to foster an inclusive and innovative editorial environment.
Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day editorial operations, supported by the publisher and AAPM publishing Staff, including tracking manuscript progress, managing correspondence, and maintaining archival records. Engage with international forums to promote the Journal’s stature and outreach.
Qualifications
A distinguished record in medical physics, demonstrated by clinical practice, research, publications, and leadership roles within the AAPM or peer professional associations.
Proven experience in clinical scientific publishing, including previous editorial board service, with a clear understanding of the peer-review process.
Strong organizational and administrative skills, a working environment that would accommodate the Editor-in-Chief’s workload, and a collaborative approach to working with Editorial Board members, the Journal Oversight Committee, and AAPM publishing staff.
A strong vision for the future of the JACMP and a forward-looking perspective on the role of scientific journals in an increasingly digital and Open Access world.
Commitment to serve for a 3-year term with the opportunity to renew for a second 3-year term.

Shortlist: A shortlist of candidates will be identified by February 1, 2025.
Interviews: Selected candidates will be invited to present their vision to the search committee (Task Group 428) in April 2025.
Appointment: The new Editor-in-Chief will be approved and appointed by the AAPM Board in July 2025. A transition period is planned to ensure a seamless handover of responsibilities, with onboarding beginning October 2025. Full editorial responsibilities will commence on 1/1/2026.
