Job Description:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Weber State University invites applications for one of two tenure-track assistant professor positions in astronomy or astrophysics.

Required qualifications include:
A Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely-related field. Candidates who expect to complete a Ph.D. by July 2025 will also be considered.
Experience or the potential to teach courses across the undergraduate physics and astronomy curriculum, including introductory physics and astronomy and upper-division astronomy courses.
Experience indicating the ability to establish an active and sustained research program that includes mentoring undergraduate students.

Interest and/or experience in managing the campus research telescope and/or Ott Planetarium.
Interest and/or experience in supporting and fostering a strong sense of student belonging.

The expected 9-month salary range for this position is $67,000 – $72,000. The position comes with a generous benefit package. A normal teaching load for tenured and tenure-track faculty is 12 credits per semester, though the successful candidate can expect to be offered a reduced teaching load at the start of their appointment.

Supplemental Information Weber State University is an open-enrollment, primarily undergraduate institution located at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains in Ogden, Utah. For more than five decades, WSU has successfully maintained a dual mission by offering a wide range of baccalaureate programs and also by meeting regional community college needs. WSU is on the “Great Colleges to Work For” Honor Roll, and intends to continue to meet the needs of the local community by becoming designated as an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution by Fall 2025. The Department of Physics & Astronomy has about 60 majors, and graduates about ten per year. It is housed in the Tracy Hall Science Center, a state-of-the-art facility completed in Fall 2016. Please note that the department does not have graduate students.

Situated half an hour from three world-class ski resorts, hundreds of miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, and several rivers and reservoirs, Ogden offers ample outdoor recreational activities through all seasons. Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
