The Savannah Country Day School is seeking Physics teacher candidates for an opening in the 2024-2025 academic year. This faculty member will teach a combination of physics courses with a maximum class load of five (5). SCDS has a physics-first science curriculum, with 9th graders enrolling in either Honors or regular physics. Seniors have the option of taking Calculus-based physics. Standard duties for this position include the preparation of course objectives and outlines for course of study, in conjunction with the Department Chair, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the school. Qualified candidates should have a passion for helping students to explore science using a variety of pedagogical techniques. A willingness to engage in a critical dialogue about instructional practice with peers and a desire to be involved in a wide range of school activities in and outside of the classroom are also essential. The ability to coach a sport is highly desirable. All Upper School teachers are required to lead or assist with at least one (1) extracurricular and also serve as advisors. Candidates with a diversity of skills in the science disciplines are encouraged to apply, as other courses and electives may be available to teach. As SCDS has opened a new STEM building in the fall of 2022, complete with a new maker space, we are excited to attract candidates with STEM experience.

Requirements: • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in physics or a related field, as well as five (5) or more years of teaching experience. Advanced degrees are preferred. • The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach a range of physics courses, from regular, to honors and Advanced. • Strong sense of humor, flexibility, and a strong desire to work with teens is required. • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to function as part of the Science Department team is desired. • Attendance at evening and weekend functions is occasionally required.
Physical Demands: Work is typically performed in a classroom or laboratory environment, with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or carries objects of a light-medium weight, up to 25 pounds. Exposure to chemicals or fumes is possible in the laboratory environment. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
