Energy Systems Scientist
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • M.S. in an energy-focused field such as Earth Science, Environmental Science, Engineering of any discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in infrastructure systems, energy systems, or another related discipline.
  • Experience defining research questions and scoping defensible methods and approaches.
  • Experience with one or more of the following computational disciplines: geospatial (GIS) analysis, data analysis, biogeochemical modeling, community benefit plan design, or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience with data analysis using one or more of the following programming tools: ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, R, MATLAB, Java, or Tableau.

Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level

  • PhD. in an energy-focused field such as Earth Science, Environmental Science, Engineering of any discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience leading or managing projects and teams on energy or environmental topics.
  • Experience collaborating across research (university, laboratory) and commercial (industry) institutions.
  • Experience presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences. Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and author products targeted to a variety of stakeholders.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with geospatial (GIS) analysis of energy, natural resource, communities, and infrastructure systems.
  • Experience in data analysis and data management (e.g. Jupyter Notebooks) pertinent to the water-energy-carbon nexus.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Fieldwork experience, particularly involving soil gas fluxes to/from soils.
  • Experience leading or managing projects and teams on energy and environmental topics with diverse team members.
  • Experience collaborating across research (university, laboratory) and commercial (industry) institutions.
  • Experience developing new projects with State and Federal sponsors.
