What You Will Do

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in experimental quantum sensing. We are a part of the Quantum Technologies team at LANL and our main research effort is to develop various quantum sensors with ultracold atoms. This position is for our project on a resonant matter wave gradiometer. In previous projects, we demonstrated waveguide atom interferometers for rotation sensing and multi-loop interferometer. In this new project, a novel resonant gradiometer scheme will be developed to significantly improve the sensitivity of an atom interferometer. This improved sensitivity might be applied to various applications in atom interferometers, such as gravitational wave detection, inertial sensing, and geophysical exploration. In addition, a theoretical and experimental effort is underway to develop the optimum quantum enhancement scheme, and the combination of the quantum and resonant enhancement will make it possible to realize a compact quantum sensor with unprecedented sensitivity for many critical applications. LANL plans to invest heavily in quantum computing and sensing for the next several years. Postdocs are actively recruited to be a part of the core workforce for this long-term investment. A postdoc for this position will play a crucial role in establishing a quantum sensing research program.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Strong background in experimental atomic or optical physics
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education/Experience: A Ph.D. in physics, completed or soon to be completed, is required. The candidate will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by the commencement of the appointment.

Desired Qualifications:

• Research experience in ultracold atomic physics
• Background in quantum sensors and atom interferometers 

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
