Position Description

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for an instructional faculty member to enhance our existing undergraduate program in meteorology and graduate degree programs in atmospheric sciences.  The successful candidate will join the Atmospheric Sciences faculty within Texas A&M’s Academic Professional Track. This position is a full-time, 9-month academic appointment with opportunities for summer salary via teaching and/or externally funded research. Applicants will be considered for the non-tenure faculty titles of Instructional Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, or Lecturer depending on qualifications.  The successful candidate is anticipated to start in either the Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 semester.

The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to the success of our degree programs by teaching courses at the introductory undergraduate, advanced undergraduate, and graduate levels and by participating in such activities as recruiting, study abroad programs, undergraduate research projects, field work and instrumentation training, and career placement.  Applicants with educational and/or professional experience in weather and climate risk and an interest in developing new courses in this area are particularly encouraged.  We seek a colleague with a track record that will complement our education mission to train a pool of students with varied backgrounds and perspectives for future success in applied, academic, and government positions as atmospheric scientists.

Teaching facilities in the department include two undergraduate computer laboratories, the Aggie Doppler Radar (ADRAD), an aerosol lidar, the Weather Center, and automated surface weather stations. Minimum qualifications: 

For appointments at the Instructional Assistant Professor level, applicants must possess a Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a closely related discipline OR a M.S. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a closely related discipline and at least five years of college teaching experience in the field or a related field. 

For appointments at the Lecturer level, a M.S. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a closely related discipline and at least five years of relevant professional or teaching experience is required at the college level in the field or a related field. Additional experience in teaching and/or industry is required for appointment as a Senior Lecturer.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

For all titles, demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching classes is desired and/or extensive experience with applications of meteorology in a non-university setting.
