Optical Metrologist
The Optical Radiation Group in the Sensor Science Division within the Physical Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland anticipates the need for a scientist or engineer to conduct research and calibrations in optical radiometry and photometry. The members of the group conduct research to advance the measurements and calibrations of optical radiation sources and detectors from the vacuum ultraviolet to the far infrared and work to improve the measurements of photometric quantities (https://www.nist.gov/pml/sensor-science/optical-radiation). These calibration services are continually evolving to support U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by providing new measurements with lower uncertainties.
