Summary: The Department of Physics at John Carroll University (JCU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor starting in the Fall of 2023. Appointments at the Associate or Full Professor will also be considered, depending on qualifications and experience. The Department of Physics offers multi-track Physics and Engineering Physics bachelor's degree programs. JCU is seeking ABET accreditation for its Engineering Physics program, and the successful candidate will make contributions to this effort. The candidate will have an opportunity to design an innovative engineering physics curriculum and develop research opportunities that align with their individual expertise and professional goals. Current faculty research areas include biomedical applications, materials for green energy, and atomic & molecular physics. Teaching responsibilities will involve foundational and advanced physics and engineering courses, as well as courses for non-majors. In addition, the successful candidate will establish a research program that can involve undergraduates and will have an ability to mentor senior capstone projects. Space and startup funds for a research program will be provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in physics or an engineering field is required. All specialties will be considered, but preference will be given to those with computational expertise. The successful candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment. Developing a research program that can involve students, and mentoring advanced students in capstone projects is expected.
