- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
- Proficient communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff within a collaborative research and development environment at LLNL.
- Fundamental knowledge of material properties and thin-film deposition methods.
- Experience with automated data acquisition and computer interfacing, familiarity with software such as Labview or Matlab.
Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level
- Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Significant experience with vapor phase deposition technologies such as sputtering, chemical vapor deposition, etc. and/or in the development of novel physical vapor deposition processes, and in dimensional, structural, and compositional characterization of materials.
- Significant experience performing independent work with technical objectives and ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a range of priorities.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to manage and coordinate daily coating lab activities and effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
Qualifications We Desire
- PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems and the troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and maintenance of the associated system hardware.
