The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory
The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory seeks a strong candidate for a position as Mentoring Director/Assistant In Research. The educational and mentoring goals of the MagLab are run through the Center for Integrating Research and Learning (CIRL). One of the major missions of the MagLab is to build a diverse STEM workforce, which is dependent on strong quality mentoring. The Mentoring Director position will help the MagLab to reach its goal. This position will be in the Center for Integrating Research and Learning housed at the MagLab facility in Tallahassee. The MagLab recognizes the value of mentoring that the National Academies of Science, the National Institute of Health, and the National Science Foundation place on mentoring. Therefore, the expectations of this position will include a research focus on mentoring and running mentoring programs for early career students and postdocs. The candidate will run mentoring programs for the MagLab, which include the College Internship program, the Research Experiences for Undergraduate Program, the Graduate student and Postdoc professional development and mentoring programs. The employee will participate in the development of research-based mentoring best practices for all early career scientists with a focus on the mentoring of students from underrepresented groups including, but not limited to: students of color, first generation college students, students with disabilities, and women.

The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab) is an interdisciplinary and international scientific gem with three partnering institutions (Florida State University, University of Florida, and Los Alamos National Laboratory). Scientists and staff use high magnetic fields to contribute to breakthroughs in physics, materials science, engineering, chemistry, geochemistry, biochemistry, and biology.
