Location: Williams Campus Chandler-Gilbert Community College is seeking to hire a Physics faculty to join the Physical Sciences and Engineering division that houses multiple disciplines: Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Astronomy, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Geosciences. This position will be working in an interdisciplinary environment in collaboration with other faculty members to develop and teach integrated physics lecture and laboratory courses. The instructor will teach Introductory Physics (PHY101), College Physics I and II (PHY111 & PHY112), University Physics I and II (PHY121 & PHY131) and University Physics III (PHY241) and possibly other physics courses depending on specialty/need. Essential Functions: - Facilitates student learning in classroom, laboratory, and/or on-line; uses instructional technologies and incorporates active learning techniques; provides leadership to and observation of adjunct and dual enrollment faculty
- Engages in continuous improvement of curriculum, integrating new developments in physics and using best practices from physics education research, and participates in and collects course and general education assessment
- Works collaboratively with colleagues on assessment metrics, strategic planning, and creative problem-solving within the division, college, and district including, but not limited to participating in campus and/or district initiatives and committees
- Tutors/mentors/advises students on curricular, co-curricular, academic, and/or career issues
Minimum Qualifications: The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university: - A master's degree in the teaching field of Physics, or a master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field of Physics.
- EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire
Desired Qualifications: - Demonstrated experience teaching algebra- and calculus-based physics to a diverse group of students
- Demonstrated experience incorporating active learning and other student engagement strategies into in-person and/or online physics classes
- Demonstrated experience using instructional technology including but not limited to data collection probeware by students in a classroom/laboratory environment
- Demonstrated experience with collaborative planning and problem-solving within an academic unit (e.g department, division, college)
- Demonstrated experience with co-curricular activities such as science outreach, dual enrollment, service learning, learning communities, student clubs, etc.
