The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the area of computational/theoretical condensed matter physics and materials science. The faculty appointment is joint with the Center for Computation and Technology, an interdisciplinary research center with excellent supercomputing facilities (https://www.cct.lsu.edu/). The successful candidate must have an exceptional record of research accomplishment and will be expected to teach and establish an innovative and dynamic research program. The Department consist of faculty working in a broad range of disciplines, including condensed matter physics and materials science, atomic, molecular and optical physics, quantum information science, astrophysics, space physics, neutrino physics, high energy and nuclear physics, theoretical general relativity, gravitational wave detection, and medical physics. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of LSU’s premier research departments with 53 faculty members, 24 postdoctoral researchers, 100 graduate students, and 31 staff. Grants and contracts support totals more than $6.2 million per year. Major research facilities available to faculty include a 1.5 GeV synchrotron light source at LSU’s Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) and the NSF’s Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO). Required Qualifications: (All levels) Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. (Assoc. Professor) Must have three years of related experience. (Full) six years of experience. Additional Qualifications Desired: (Assistant) Postdoctoral research experience; (Assoc. or Full Prof.) strong national and/or international reputation; demonstrated excellence in leadership, research, and scholarly activities; extensive publication record; teaching and student mentoring experience.
