Assistant Professor -- Physics and Astronomy -- Xavier University of LA

The Department of Physics and Computer Science in the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with research interests in the area of astronomy and experimental physics (biological materials and biophysics, polymer physics, energy materials, nanofabrication, and optical spectroscopy). A Ph.D. is required; teaching experience, postdoctoral experience and/or experience with curriculum and new program development are preferred. Primary duties for this position will include teaching engineering courses as well as General Physics lecture and labs and courses in the additional area of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to actively engage in scholarship activities involving undergraduate students, which may include scholarship of teaching and learning.

Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier is Catholic and historically Black. Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. The Department of Physics and Computer Science has 12 faculty members and over 120 students. The Department offers eight different types of major programs including Physics, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Bioinformatics, and Dual-Degree Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, and Civil Engineering (3+2).
