Faculty 4-Year College/University
Physics: Atomic and Molecular, Physics: Optics and Laser, Physics: Plasma
The Department of Physics (physics.ucf.edu) at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level anticipated to begin in August 2019. This position adds to our highly successful program in the recently established Institute for the Frontier of Attosecond Science and Technology (iFAST), http://ifast.ucf.edu/.
We seek candidates with research experience in experimental strong field laser-plasma physics, with emphasis on ultrafast laser-matter interactions at high intensities. Relevant research areas include ultrafast X-ray emission, electron and ion acceleration in relativistic laser-plasma, plasma-based ultrafast terahertz (THz) source, as well as their applications.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded and creative research program and have a strong commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education.
The Department of Physics has 54 full-time, in-unit faculty, offers B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, and is located in a state-of-the-art research building. Research-active professors teach one course per semester. UCF is a leading, fast-growing, metropolitan, research-intensive university with over 67,000 students. We offer a dual-career hiring program, support for expectant mothers, paid parental leave for both parents, a Center for Success of Women Faculty, on-site pre-school, and professional development and leadership training for all faculty at all career stages. Hiring and promotion are based solely on merit. UCF provides competitive startup funds.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in physics or in a closely related discipline from an accredited institution and a substantial record of independent research.
As an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, UCF encourages all qualified applicants to apply, including women, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of traditionally underrepresented populations. UCF's Equal Opportunity Statement can be viewed at: http://www.oie.ucf.edu/documents/PresidentsStatement.pdf. UCF requires all applications and supporting documents to be submitted electronically through the Human Resources website, www.jobswithucf.com. In addition to the online application, interested candidates should upload: a cover letter, curriculum vita (CV), and summary of research and teaching portfolio. Applicants must also arrange to have at least three (3) letters of reference sent to the search committee (email to email@example.com). Note: Please have all documents ready when applying so they can be attached at that time. Once the online submission process is finalized, the system does not allow applicants to submit additional documents at a later date.
Questions regarding this search can be directed via email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: Experimentalist in Strong Field Laser-Plasma Physics Position.
Screening of applications will begin on December 3, 2018 and continue until the position is filled.
