About School of Physics and Electronics, Central South University
In 2002, the CSU School of Physics and Electronics was created from the merger of the physics and parts of the electronics of Former Hunan Medical University (established in 1914), Changsha Railway Institute (established in 1953), and Central-South Industry University (established in 1952). After its foundation, it became known as the School of Physics Science & Technology. The present name was adopted in 2011. Today, The School of Physics and Electronics includes three departments, two centers, and an institute.Though the steadfast efforts of all faculty and staff, the School has achieved leap-forward development. Today, The School grants Bachelor of Science, Master of Engineering (Electronics & Communications Engineering and Integrated circuit), Master of Science (first level disciplines of Physics and Electronic Science & Technology), and Doctor of Philosophy degrees (first level disciplines of Physics). The school also has a professional master's degree program for college physics teachers, and has a post-doctoral research station. Physics discipline in the school is Provincial Key Discipline in the 12th Five-year Plan and ranked 25th in China according to the discipline evalua...tion in 2012, and Electronic Science & Technology is College Key Discipline. The School of Physics & Electronics consists of a strong teaching and research team. At present, School has 114 faculty and staff, including 87 full-time teachers, 32 full professors, and 30 associate professors. Many faculty members have received various national awards for their achievements in research and education, including “Qianren” Scholars, National Outstanding Young Scholars, “New Century High-level Creative Talents” from the Ministry of Education, “Furong” scholars from the Hunan Education Department, Distinguished Young Scholars from the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province, Provincial Level Notable Teachers, “Shenghua” scholars from CSU University and so on.
