The University of Indianapolis seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Natural Science. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2018. Departmental affiliation of the successful candidate will be determined with consideration to the formal training of that candidate. Natural science departments at the University of Indianapolis include Biology, Chemistry, as well as Physics and Earth-Space Sciences.
The individual in this position will assist with teaching a series of integrated science courses that introduce elementary education teacher candidates to concepts of Earth and environmental science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering through interactive, learner focused teaching practices; teach departmental courses for undergraduate students in those disciplines consistent with specific candidate's background; carry out research (the University of Indianapolis follows the Boyer Model of scholarship) at either the university, or elementary level; and develop and improve the newly designed, soon to be implemented, elementary education science curriculum as we collect data and identify needs
A Ph.D. in a natural science discipline or science education is required. Applicants nearing completion of that degree will be considered. Candidates with a Ph.D. in science education must have a masters in a natural science discipline. A passion for teaching and curriculum development is required. A strong interest in innovative pedagogy and interdisciplinary collaboration is also required.
