: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with a focus in probabilistic solid mechanics and fracture and failure modeling\. This position works in collaboration with a broad team including engineers, computational scientists, material scientists, experimentalists and mathematicians to develop new methods for multiscale uncertainty quantification including the propagation of uncertainty across length scales, with an overall focus on structural reliability and failure\. Research topics may include developments with both probability theory and the mechanics of polycrystalline metals deformation and fracture\. Work may include consideration of additively\-manufactured microstructures and the uncertainties that lie therein\. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Application of computational solid mechanics to develop engineering solutions, accounting for multiple length scales and multiple sources of uncertainty+ Combined use of probability theory and computation solid mechanics to provide engineering solutions to challenging applications+ Prediction of complex nonlinear structural behavior, including failure, in multi\-physics environments and at multiple length scales+ Quantification of margins and uncertainties associated with structural mechanics simulation and analysis+ Working closely with other subject matter experts of computational and experimental mechanics+ Partnering with staff in the multi\-physics code development teams to drive technical innovation to robust predictive capabilities Required: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field+ Experience with solid mechanics, including strength of materials, continuum mechanics, and/or material mechanics+ Experience with computer programming and code development with object\-oriented languages, e\.g\.
