: We are seeking a Laboratory Support Technologist to join our Focused Ion Beam Lab team\. This position supports of a broad range of Sandia missions by utilizing focused ion beam methods to provide critical materials analyses for both fundamental and applied research projects and customers\. Samples span a variety of material types such as metals, ceramics, semiconductors, polymers, and composites\. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make important contributions in support of the Department's growing research and forensics\-related activities\. Success in this role will require enthusiasm for materials science and materials forensics work, a desire and aptitude to learn quickly and continue to grow technically, and an appreciation for both fundamental and applied research\. While some of our requests are routine, much of our focused ion beam work is like tackling a mini\-R&D challenge with each unique request\. Key functions include: + Focused ion beam milling, imaging, spectroscopy, and diffraction analysis+ Developing and applying ion\-based methods for site\-specific sample preparation for scanning electron microscope or transmission electron microscope experiments+ Collecting and analyzing structural and chemical data sets towards understanding the root cause of material/component performance, behavior, and/or failure+ Performing state\-of\-the\-art 3D serial sectioning and reconstructions for volumetric sample analysis+ Interacting with and supporting numerous scientists and engineers engaged in materials research, troubleshooting, and failure analysis+ Collaborating with key technical staff to realize their ideas and accomplish project goals+ Prioritizing and managing requests from multiple FIB customers+ Utilizing adaptive communication styles to communicate with customers and colleagues at a variety of levels+ Maintaining laboratory operations, including engagement in equipment servicing, repair, and modification+ Working occasional overtime to meet program deadlines Required: + High school diploma plus 3 years' experience with either FIB or SEM+ Experience working collaboratively in team settings+ Experience working in a research and development environment+ Current, active DoE clearance Desired: + Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field+ Experience with focused ion beam, including e\.g\. site\-specific sample preparation, imaging and spectroscopy of surfaces and interfaces, and 3D serial sectioning and reconstruction+ Experience in electron microscopy imaging, including e\.g\.
