Two postdoctoral positions are imminently available at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo in the area of quantum annealing with superconducting quantum devices. Both positions are with the Superconducting Quantum Devices group (http://info.iqc.ca/sqd/) and will be supervised by Adrian Lupascu. The research is part of the project “Flux-based Quantum Speedup” (FluQS), an international collaboration including teams at University of Southern California, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, University College London, the University of Saarland (Germany), MIT, Caltech, Harvard University, UC Berkeley, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Lockheed Martin Corporation and Northrop Grumman Corporation. The goal of FluQS is the development of a quantum annealing processor based on superconducting devices with the aim to investigate quantum speedup.
Applicants for these positions should hold a PhD degree in experimental physics or electrical engineering. Strong preference will be given to candidates with prior research experience in the following areas: low temperature experiments using dilution refrigerators, microwave and low frequency electronics applied to quantum devices, design of superconducting quantum devices based on Josephson junctions, nanofabrication of quantum devices. Applicants should have a strong record of publications in highly recognized peer review journals.
The first of these positions will involve work done primarily at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Massachusetts whereas the second position will be based primarily at the University of Waterloo. Applicants for the first opening are required to be in a position to obtain security clearance for work at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and expected to follow the necessary steps to obtain clearance.
The appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of renewal subject to continuation of the project funding and performance. The FluQS project funding will be initially available for one year, with further options for an additional four years (subject to satisfactory progress). The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. For the position based at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory the expected salary range is $65,000 to $85,000 US and for the position based at the University of Waterloo the expected range is $CA 50,000-70,000 CAD.
