Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of electrical and electronic apparatus and equipment, including the entire process of electronic fabrication, packaging, and assembly of micromodules into complex electronic equipment systems.

Fabricates, packages, and tests semiconductors, printed circuit board design and test, circuit or micromodules. Assists in conducting experiments and acquiring data. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedures to meet desired specifications.
Typically requires skill in electronics or related technologies, such as mechanics or optics. May require specialized training for the control of radioactive material and wastes. Knowledge and experience with electrical design, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance. Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of electrical design, engineering, or maintenance. Ability to prepare and present electrical systems and equipment testing and reporting. Knowledge of the use, distribution, and potential variances and hazards of electrical currents. Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications. Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories' electricity-related policies, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of requirements and environmental impacts affecting electrical design, engineering, and maintenance. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting electronic systems and equipment. Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.
The Advanced Systems Engineering and Deployment Department (8125) is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying engineered solutions to fundamental national security challenges in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. The department is a multi-disciplinary organization comprised primarily of mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineers engaging in science-based engineering and component development to support a broad range of research and development activities. The projects within 8625 often involve teaming with other groups with expertise in molecular biology, synthetic chemistry, radiation physics, and nuclear weapons to develop prototypes and impact how researchers study fundamental phenomena or turn basic scientific understanding into functional capabilities. Principal sponsors for the efforts led by the department include the Departments of Homeland Security, Defense, and Energy; and various other federal, state and local agencies.
