: The Applied Photonic Microsystems Department is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee with an emphasis in nanophotonic and microphotonic technologies\. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: + Support research involving nanophotonics and nonlinear optics+ Support research in areas including metamaterials, plasmonic, optical emitters and absorbers, and phononic devices, and other optical technologies+ Design, simulate, fabricate, and/or characterize novel optical devices, materials, and systems+ Study new physics phenomenon and evaluate new concepts+ Report research results in top\-tier journals and conferences+ Generate new intellectual property through patent filing Required: + Ph\.D\. degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering or Science, Physics, or other related technical areas, conferred within five years prior to employment+ Experience in the design and simulation of optical metamaterials+ Experience in finite element method tools, such as COMSOL, Matlab/Simulink, or similar packages+ Experience performing original research, demonstrated through a record of invention, original publication in top\-tier journals, and conference papers and presentations+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance Desired: + Expertise in C\+\+ programming for scientific computing and GUI development+ Expertise in integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, or related topics+ Familiarity with the following: - Group theory applications to metamaterial- Optical isolators and circulators- Numerical techniques for optimization and sensitivity analysis- Solid state physics and phenomena and physical optics+ Experience in design and simulation of novel optical structures and material with commercial and custom codes+ Experience in near\-infrared optical test and characterization techniques, associated optics, detectors, and spectroscopies+ Familiarity with laboratory optical bench optics, electronics, optoelectronics, and safe use of lasers; able to design and carry out laser\-based optical experiments+ Self\-motivated, with strong communications skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment+ Undergraduate/graduate GPA >3\.2/3\.5 respectively Department Description: The Applied Photonic Microsystems Department develops and matures state of the art photonic technologies for a variety of national security purposes\.
