The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Physics (R97489) starting August 2017. This is a full time, nine-month appointment. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a metropolitan, community-engaged, research university. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is dedicated to high quality education at both undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research activities which involve both graduate and undergraduate students, and providing educational and technical services to Arkansans. The Department currently has active research in materials science and seeks to establish a teaching and research capability in biophysics. Materials research is also currently a focus in UALR’s Chemistry and Biology Departments, as well as its Center for Integrative Nanotechnology.
The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to education of undergraduate and graduate students, both as a classroom instructor and as a research mentor, and to establish a vigorous research program in materials science and/or biophysics.
Biophysicists and medical physicists with an interest in materials science are especially encouraged to apply, as are applicants who are positioned to make use of existing facilities in Central Arkansas including University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR).
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in curriculum improvement and implementation, developing and continuing departmental partnerships, and a variety of service activities in the department, college, university, and community.
Minimum Qualifications: The minimum requirement for this position is a Doctorate in Physics, Biophysics, Materials Science, or closely related fields. The position does presume a readiness to teach traditional undergraduate and graduate physics courses and to initiate research projects involving undergraduate and graduate students.
