: The Biosystems Rearch Department performs a range of bioinformatics research and analysis\. We are seeking to hire summer student interns interested in bioinformatics who have some training in biology and computer programming\. Specific projects areas involving bioinformatics include bacterial genome assembly and annotation; studying phages and mobile elements in bacteria; microbial community structure; gene expression studies; protein structural modeling, and development of gene editing methods\. Students will be expected to work with mentors to apply existing bioinformatics tools, and to implement new algorithms and pipelines using their programming skills\. Desired: Experience with database programming, web programming, or parallel computing is a plus\.
