Lawrence University, chartered in 1847, is a nationally recognized undergraduate college of the liberal arts and sciences with a conservatory of music, located in Appleton, Wisconsin, and enrolls 1,500 students. We are guided by the fundamental belief that an exceptional undergraduate education must include individualized learning experiences — particularly undergraduate research. Staffed by a fi...ve member faculty, the physics program is comprehensive in scope and professional in outlook. About half of the approximately ten physics majors who graduate each year pursue graduate study. The Department was recognized as one of the nation’s thriving physics programs in the recent AIP/APS/AAPT SPIN-UP study. The Department occupies recently renovated laboratory and office space. Faculty members have individual research laboratory space in addition to well-equipped instructional laboratories. An electronics technician maintains laboratory equipment and a part-time machinist is available to help with projects in the Department’s machine shop.
