: A position exists for a highly motivated R&D Aerospace Systems Engineer to explore and develop new and existing flight system concepts\. The candidate for this position shall be passionate and qualified to develop aerospace systems and be able to use aerodynamic prediction tools such as Missile DATCOM, S/HABP, or CART3D; become a subject matter expert \(SME\) in Sandia's aerospace systems development; use Sandia analytical tools and simulations as well as possess an aptitude and desire to learn aerospace systems analysis methods and technologies\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Model flight system in 3DOF/6DOF simulations and characterize its flight system performance\.+ Identifying design characteristics for design improvements\.+ Develop hybrid/multi fidelity aerodynamic models, including uncertainty models, for use in simulation and Guidance Navigation and Control Analyses\.+ Quantify aerodynamic uncertainties throughout the flight envelope\.+ Learn and understand legacy Sandia codes and tools\.+ Work in a team environment to support the early phases of product development including concept development, flight system design, performance and risk assessments\.+ Conduct flight safety analyses and day\-of\-launch simulation support\.+ Optimize trajectories and maneuvers to meet mission objectives\. OpenMDAO, ModelCenter\)\.+ Proficiency in numerical computing environments such as Mathematica, the Enthought's Canopy Python distribution, or MATLAB\\Simulink with expertise in capturing, processing, analyzing, searching, visualization and curating large datasets\.+ Experience with plotting and data visualization using MATLAB, matplotlib, or Tecplot\.+ Experience with 3D simulator visualization and plotting tools \(e\.g\. SIMDIS, X\-Plane visualization, or STK visualization\)\.+ The ability to technically engage with subject matter experts regarding aeroelastic and aerothermodynamic analyses\.+ Familiarity with CFD flow solvers such as GASP, US3D or DPLR, or thermal analyzer codes like MSC Sinda or aerothermodynaimc codes such as MINIVER or CDHEAT\.+ Familiarity with grid generation and grid generation tools \(e\.g\. GridPro\) and adaptive mesh refinement \(AMR\) algorithms\.+ Experience with distributed and centralized version control systems \(e\.g\., Git and Subversion\)\.+ Ability to complete assignments with little or no supervision\.+ Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment\.+ Active DOE/DOD clearance\.
