: We are seeking a R&D \- Graduate Summer intern On any given day, you may be called on to: + Explore and develop new and existing flight system concepts+ Conduct modeling, simulation and design analysis of aerospace systems+ Model flight system in 3DOF/6DOF simulations and characterize its flight system performance+ Optimize trajectories and maneuvers to meet mission objectives+ Identifying design characteristics for design improvements+ Develop aerodynamic models for use in simulation and Guidance Navigation and Control Analyses+ Learn and understand legacy Sandia codes and improving these codes to enable integration and connectivity with other tools to support model based design, rapid concept development and integration with other analysis tools+ Work in a team environment to support the early phases of product development including concept development, flight system design, performance assessment and flight test support Required: The successful candidate must meet the following Sandia Student Intern Requirements: Official acceptance into an accredited university's graduate program, full\-time enrollment during the spring term immediately preceding the internship \(typically 9 credit hours\), a minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.5/4\.0, and the ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer\. U\.S\. citizenship\. + Bachelor's Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or relevant field+ Ability to model, simulate and analyze flight system performance+ Knowledge of flight mechanics and aerodynamics in particular+ A willingness to learn Desired: + Experience with aerodynamic prediction codes \(e\.g\. DATCOM, Missile DATCOM, Panel Codes, S/HABP, or CART3D\)+ Experience wind tunnel testing+ Experience building, testing and using 3DOF and 6DOF Flight Simulations+ Familiarity with trajectory optimization and simulation tools and principles \(e\.g\. TAOS, OTIS, POST2, STK or GMAT\)+ Experience with optimization software \(e\.g\. GPOPS\-II, SNOPT, or DOT\) applicable to trajectory optimization+ Experience with Multi\-Disciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization \(MDAO\) methods and frameworks \(e\.g\. OpenMDAO, ModelCenter\)+ Proficiency in numerical computing environments such as Mathematica, the Enthought's Python Distribution, or MATLAB\\Simulink with expertise in capturing, processing, analyzing, searching, visualization and curating large datasets+ Experience with plotting and data visualization using MATLAB, matplotlib, or Tecplot+ Experience with 3D simulator visualization and plotting tools \(e\.g\. SIMDIS, X\-Plane visualization, or STK visualization\)+ Experience with distributed and centralized version control systems \(e\.g\., Git and Subversion\)+ Active DOE/DOD clearance Department Description: The Aerospace Systems Analysis Department provides applied aerodynamics and flight dynamics analysis, trajectory simulations, range safety analysis, range operations support, and mechanical design for a wide range of flight systems that fly in the subsonic through hypersonic regimes\.
