: The Laser Applications Department \(05444\) is looking for qualified candidates for an R&D Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering position\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Conduct research and development in the areas of laser\-triggered semiconductor\-switched pulsed power, ultra\-short pulse lasers, high power microwave sources, pulsed THz imaging of electronic plasmas, ultra\-wide bandgap semiconductor devices, and electrical breakdown\.+ Work on state\-of\-the\-art, ultra\-short pulse lasers and high\-voltage pulsed power systems with state\-of\-the\-art optical and RF test and measurement equipment for a variety of nationally important programs\.+ Work in a fast\-paced, multidisciplinary environment requiring the ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel with largely self\-directed priorities and tasking based on program schedules\.+ Direct scientific and engineering activities such as system design and testing, experiment design and execution, documentation, and proposal development\. Working hazards include visible and infra\-red high energy lasers, high voltage, high currents, pressure systems, chemicals, and mechanical/kinetic energy sources\. The candidate will be expected to work within the Sandia Engineered Safety and ES&H processes\. Required: + PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or closely related science or engineering field\.+ Two years' experience with photoconductive semiconductor switches \(PCSSs\), including design, fabrication, characterization, testing, and application\.+ Two years' experience with one or more of the following: pulsed high\-voltage \(to 200 kV\) equipment \(pulsed power\), experiments, and phenomena, including mechanical and electrical assembly and maintenance, and operation of high\-voltage, pulsed power systems\.+ Two years' experience with operating and programming data acquisition instrumentation for laser and optical systems including high speed cameras, timing generators, oscilloscopes, and spectrometers\. Desired: + At least two years' experience working with high band\-gap or ultra\-high band\-gap materials for PCSSs, particularly for pulsed\-power applications\.+ Training and at least two years' experience with ultra\-short pulse lasers including femtosecond oscillators, regenerative amplifiers, optical parametric oscillators and amplifiers, difference frequency generators, and the timing components required to synchronize laser systems\.+ At least two years' experience with semiconductor optoelectronics such as diode lasers, detectors, and optical microsystems\.+ At least two years' experience measuring electrical breakdown phenomena\.+ Safety training for lasers and high voltage operations\.+ Demonstrated ability to work alone and in a team environment\.+ Demonstrated skills at writing and presenting design and test information using Microsoft Office tools \(e\.g\., PowerPoint, Word, and Excel\) by way of publications\.+ Active DOE/DOD clearance\.
