: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to work on the development of advanced electric field sensing technology using neutral atoms addressed by lasers\. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Work with a team of physicists and engineers to successfully advance the science of atomic Rydberg states so they can be employed as a practical sensing mechanism by overcoming challenges in physics and engineering+ Develop emerging areas in atomic clocks, optically pumped magnetometers, and other applications of atomic physics+ Assist with development of proposals for funding Required: + PhD, conferred within five years prior to employment, in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field+ Experience with atomic physics, diode laser systems, optics, computer control, and/or automated data acquisition+ Strong academic performance as evidenced by minimum cumulative GPA\(s\) of 3\.2/4\.0 for each undergraduate degree and 3\.5/4\.0 for each graduate degree Desired: + Excellent communication skills, particularly in written form+ Excellent collaboration skills for working in a team environment+ Experience with alkali hot\-vapor or cold\-atom experiments+ Experience with atomic vapor cells or vacuum systems+ Experience with laser stabilization techniques+ Experience with Rydberg spectroscopy+ Experience with Matlab and LabView+ Experience with data acquisition, signal processing, and data analysis+ Track record of successful research and development in atomic physics Department Description: The Physics\-Based Microsystems Department leverages a diverse capability set to provide science and technology products to enhance Sandia's national security missions\.
