: We are seeking a staff member in the power sources technology group to support and develop R&D programs in the area of energy storage and energy conversion\. Primary responsibilities include support for our core power source products and R&D portfolio\. A strong working knowledge of electrochemical storage and conversion systems, understanding of electrochemical methods, critical thinking, ability to work in a team, as well as good oral and written communication skills through conference presentations and peer reviewed journal articles will be necessary to be successful in this position\. Required: 99. Bachelor's degree plus advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or equivalent degree;99. Five or more years' experience working in a laboratory setting at Sandia or equivalent external company or National Laboratory;99. Experience in leading teams to successful outcomes demonstrated by experience as a Principle Investigator or Project Manager showing technical achievement of teams, mentorship, and success in meeting project milestones;99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\. Desired: 99. Hands\-on experience with batteries, energy conversion, or other energy storage technologies;99. Experience with electrochemical methods, battery testing, and analytical techniques;99. Working knowledge of both internal and external customers;99. Demonstrated understanding of work, planning and control processes and the principles of engineered safety;99. Organize, lead, conduct, and report on focused R&D for power source improvements;99. Operate collaboratively, utilizing resources from within the Center and across the laboratory to achieve R&D milestones;99. Propose new research aligned with customer needs, and translate customer needs into programmatic developments;99. Communicate orally and in written form for both proposing and reporting on R&D;99. Knowledge of electrochemical and/or mechanical power sources, and familiarity with the literature of these fields;99. Department Description: The Power Sources Research and Development Department develops primary and rechargeable lithium batteries, hybrid power sources, and double layer capacitors for our customers in the DOE, the military, industry, and other Sandia organizations\. The Department endeavors to build on a leadership position in developing lithium batteries for energy and defense applications\. In collaboration with others, we develop new power source concepts and materials leading to component development for specific applications\. Our battery safety research and abuse testing laboratories are state\-of\-the\-art and help us understand battery failures and lead our engineering efforts to produce abuse tolerant systems for nuclear weapons and other defense and consumer applications that include electric and hybrid\-electric vehicles and utility grid energy storage\. To accomplish these missions, Department personnel perform applied research, engineering design, hardware development, cell prototyping and fabrication, safety evaluation, and testing\. Our personnel also partner with industrial battery manufacturers and other government agencies to develop prototype and final battery hardware\. Technology transfer through CRADAs and other industrial collaborations is actively pursued\.
