Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Supporting ongoing research and efforts to strengthen our research program with particular emphasis on x\-ray diagnostics for use during mechanical testing+ Supporting efforts covering the full spectrum of the research \- development \- applications domain+ Teaming with in\-house high\-fidelity multi\-physics computational teams and large\-scale test systems Required: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in Nuclear, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline+ Strong academic performance as evidenced by minimum cumulative GPA\(s\) of 3\.2/4\.0 for each relevant undergraduate degree and 3\.5/4\.0 for each relevant graduate degree+ Experience or academic focus in the area of x\-ray or diagnostic imaging+ Experience in a laboratory environment \(e\.g\. use of cameras, detectors, electronics, and data acquisition systems\)+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE L clearance Desired: + Strong academic performance as evidenced by minimum cumulative GPA\(s\) of 3\.5/4\.0 for each relevant undergraduate degree and 3\.7/4\.0 for each relevant graduate degree+ Ability to work independently, with the ability to integrate effectively into a dynamic multidisciplinary teaming environment+ Good interpersonal, organization, and communication skills \(both oral and written\), as evidenced by a strong publication and presentation record+ Commitment to engineering excellence and continuous improvement, including a dedication to performing high quality work safely+ Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in a collaborative environment within a multidisciplinary team+ Experience with Matlab and image processing software+ Experience with mechanical design is desirable, and experience on projects including design\-build\-test+ Experience with designing, conducting, and/or interpreting data from dynamic mechanical tests Department Description: Our department consists of radiography, nondestructive evaluation \(NDE\), climate simulation for normal, abnormal, and aging environments, and inertial environments\. Deliverables span the full Research\-Development\-Application spectrum for all of the Laboratories' Missions with a focus on Nuclear Weapon components throughout the stockpile lifecycle\. The department lies within the Component Environments, Testing, and Response Group \(1520\), which conceives, constructs, and uses experimental platforms and diagnostics to obtain accurate and reproducible data in mission relevant normal and abnormal mechanical environments through environmental and nondestructive testing of components and systems for design, development, qualification, and simulation model validation\.
