: The Electromagnetic Theory Department is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with an emphasis in electromagnetic modeling of nanophotonic systems and metamaterials\. Experience is desired in both theoretical analysis and computational simulation using commercial and/or customized software\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Support research involving nanophotonics, metamaterials, plasmonic and phononic devices, and/or optics+ Design and simulate novel optical devices, materials, and systems+ Study new physics phenomena and evaluate new concepts+ Report research results in top\-tier journals and conferences+ Generate new intellectual property through patent filing The candidate will need to team with other developers, analysts, and experimentalists\. Required: + A PhD degree in electrical engineering, optical engineering or science, physics or closely\-related discipline, with a specialization in electromagnetic theory or simulation, conferred within 5 years + Publications or presentations demonstrating experience with developing or using numerical simulations to better understand electromagnetic phenomenon\.+ Experience in developing or using software for device performance simulations using, for example, CST Microwave Studio, Comsol, Matlab, FDTD codes, etc\.+ Experience in data analysis and post\-processing\. Desired: + Candidates who are both willing to develop expertise in different areas of electromagnetics and who work well in team environments are desired\. + Strong mathematical and simulation background with good knowledge and experience in electromagnetic analysis\.+ Minimum GPA of 3\.2/4\.0 in undergraduate programs and 3\.5/4\.0 in graduate programs+ Experience in design and simulation of novel optical structures and materials \(e\.g\. metamaterial lenses, angular momentum, etc\.\) with commercial and custom codes+ Self\-motivated, with strong communication skills to work independently and in a team environment+ Demonstrated ability to work with others and contribute to a team effort\.+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills\.+ Willingness to be flexible in job assignments\. Department Description: Department 1352 is a multidisciplinary research group that conducts theory and simulation to support the Department of Energy's NNSA Defense Programs\. The primary areas of research include analytic theory and modeling in linear and non\-linear electromagnetics, plasma physics and high voltage breakdown\.
