: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee focused in the areas of physical modeling of candidate technologies for implementing practical qubits\. We are especially interested in qubits based on semiconductor and trapped\-ion technologies\. Key functions of this role include but are not limited to: + Perform research in the areas of device physics, effective mass theory, atomistic tight\-binding and similar techniques related to modeling semiconductor qubits \-\- and/or \-\- Perform research into the atomic physics of trapped ions;+ Work under the guidance of, and in collaboration with accomplished experts in quantum information science and in modeling of materials as quantum systems;+ Interact with an experimental team investigating aspects of quantum information processing\. Required: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, or related discipline+ Experience with semiconductor device physics, electronic structure theory, or AMO physics+ Experience with programming and performing numerical simulations of quantum systems+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance Desired: + Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes and/or experience with trapped ion or neutral atom processes;+ Experience working with experimentalists;+ Scientific programming for high performance parallel computing, including expertise with MPI\-based parallel programming;+ Developing both classical and quantum algorithms for simulating quantum systems;+ Experience making effective technical presentations and interacting with customers and partner institutions\.
