Micro Encoder Inc. (MEI) an R&D company develops software, sensors and measurement technologies for state-of-the-art industrial inspection applications. We are seeking a Optical & Electromagnetic Group Manager to join our world-class research and development team.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct all activities necessary to complete parallel R&D projects related to new fundamental sensor technologies and precision dimensional measurement products. Lead the planning for project objectives, resources, tasks, schedule and budget

Ensure execution of the project plan in the most effective and efficient manner possible
Coordinate and communicate with project stakeholders, including MEI senior leadership, fellow functional/project managers and Mitutoyo Corporation scientists, engineers and executives
Lead a group of research and development scientists and engineers
Provide continuous performance management and career development
Lead the development of strategic skills, tools and other capabilities
Act as advisor to senior management on technical and business risk, trade-offs, process improvement
Advanced degree (Ph.D. strongly preferred) in physics, applied physics, optics, or related field
3 years project management experience related to sensor development or precision measurement
2+ years personnel management experience preferred
Accomplished, high energy individual able to effectively lead multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.
Able to coach, mentor and inspire individuals to achieve top performance.
Able to plan and successfully manage scope, schedule and resources for complex technical projects
Able to develop tools and capabilities in anticipation of technology and product advances
Able to formulate and articulate solutions for complex problems
Able to effectively communicate with stakeholders across organizational lines, including customers, project team members, sister groups located in Japan and senior corporate leadership
Broad, up-to-date understanding of sensor technologies related to precision measurement, including optics and electromagnetics
Good understanding of system engineering and system integration
Solid understanding and mastery of the scientific method: “systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.”
Precision engineering and metrology
Knowledge of Japanese language, culture and business practices
Consistent attendance and performance
Interact in a positive and constructive manner with co-workers
Attending occasional web meetings outside of regular working hours.
